Initial estimates of the exact magnitude of losses of October 8 earthquake would hopefully be announced by mid of November, Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz said on Thursday.

In an interview with a private TV channel, he said about 40 foreign and a sizeable number of experts across the country were busy in assessing the exact magnitude of losses. The whole process would be completed by November 15.

All possible resources including foreign aids, donations, etc, would be utilised for meeting affects of the quake. Exact figures including casualties would be announced after proper verification. There would be two phases of relief, rescue and rehabilitation.

In rescue and relief phase, food and other necessities were being provided to survivors, while the rehabilitation phase would be initiated in the next month.

The Prime Minister said: "It was a big disaster than Tsunami. Food and edibles are reaching everywhere including inaccessible areas."

Replying to a question, he said following the disaster, local administration became crippled and was in trauma. All communications network was badly affected. However, important communication links were restored by October 11.

Lauding the role of media, he added local and international media had played an excellent role at this earthquake tragedy.

He said casualties have reached 54,000 and injured are above 70,000 as a result of the disastrous earthquake. He also appreciated the prompt support of the world community in this hour of need.
